  SpyderCo Calypso III

Yes. Before the Caly3 (and abbreviation of the name) there was a Calypso2 and Calypso1. No they didn’t fade away or die. They were improved upon, becoming more functional and useful with each rendition. Like comparing the first Corvette to today’s Corvette, the latest Caly3 is an offshoot and tangible testament to the design’s durability and sale-ability in the market. People continue buying the folder because Spyderco held true its original premise: A great folding knife should function and feel like a natural extension of the hand. The Caly3CFP, with its high-end laminated ZDP-189 blade steel with buffed carbon fiber handle is (yes) yet another variation of the knife that converted legions of knife buyers to the hard-use benefits of flat-ground leaf-shaped blades. ZDP-189 blade steel contains 3% carbon, making it harder, higher on the Rockwell scale and in turn extending the amount of time it stays sharp.

Features:
The Calypso folder isn’t just one of Spyderco’s most popular folders, it inspired new Spyderco designs over the last ten years and converted many a knife buyer to the hard-use benefits of flat-ground, thick leaf-shaped blades. This is a workingman’s (or woman’s) folder and it’s founded on the design philosophy that the most comfortable and usable pocketknife is one that feels like a natural extension of your hand. The Caly3 has a VG-10 blade shaped like a leaf, thick at the tang, tapering to a robust tip. The sharpened edge is flat-ground and finely honed for precision and resistance-free cutting. There is a substantial finger choil where the handle meets the blade. At this spot the index finger settles naturally into the choil while the thumb settles directly above on the blade’s spine. The spine is textured with slip resistant jimping so the knife cannot slide forward or backward while cutting. The ergonomic handle is G-10 with a mid-positioned back lock. A low profile stainless wire clip holds the folder deeply in a pocket either tip-up.
